October 2019- As the 31st of October date looms and grows ever closer, here at World Courier Express we are continuing to review the potential impact of a deal or no deal Brexit on our operation and the logistics industry as a whole. We are ready to adapt our operation should we need to and continue to adhere to legislation.
Whatever the final decision, we do not believe that our operation will be dramatically impacted. In fact, as a same day dedicated courier we believe we have the operational model to support businesses throughout the UK, to keep their goods moving. Delays? We can get you back on track
The media have talked about congestion at ports and the impact this may have on the UK road network, meaning businesses are in a position where they need to plan for potential delays in the movement of their goods. All goods between the UK and Europe will be subject to customs clearance, which may incur delays for businesses. In this situation, where freight may be delayed in to National Distribution Centres or Regional Hubs and would otherwise have been split and redistributed to onward locations on next day or 48-hours delivery services, World Courier Express, with over 60 branches throughout the UK and a strong driver network are able to meet both planned and emergency same day delivery requirements.

Collecting from UK airports
Where businesses may choose to speed up the process of getting goods into the UK by using air freight, World Courier Express have a trained team of drivers who can collect goods from every UK airport following customs clearance. World Courier Express are also able to support with collection and delivery internationally, co-ordinating businesses onward logistics with our global partners.
Customs clearance
All our branch teams are aware that it is essential to accurately declare cargo moving in or out of the UK and are outlining to clients the importance of gaining customs clearance for consignments.
In a no-deal Brexit, businesses will need to follow specific rules when importing from anywhere outside the UK. Businesses are encouraged to make the transition easier by registering to use transitional simplified procedures (TPS).
Registering for Transitional Simplified Procedures will make importing post-Brexit simpler. Registering can allow businesses to delay completing customs clearance processes until 6 months after import and also delay payment. Registering should reduce delays at ports.
Businesses bringing goods into the EU will need to submit a customs declaration. Completing a customs declaration can be complicated, with specific software required. Commodity Codes
Commodity codes are used to classify the goods that a company are shipping so they can be recognised by countries, including those in Europe, that are members of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). These codes ensure that there are no inconsistencies with product descriptions or any problems with language barriers.
We encourage all our clients to be aware of their Commodity Codes– as this also enables our clients to be able to identify the correct rate of Duty and ensure they remain compliant with HMRC, and shipments correctly minimising delays.

EORI (Economic Operator Registration and Identification)
If the UK leaves the EU without a deal, businesses need to get a UK EORI number to continue trading with the EU, this number is required when making customs declarations. Companies can apply for free via the Government website: https://www.gov.uk/eori
